Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuits

"These do not contain Biscuit Mix in the recipe. I don't have enough room in my kitchen for all those shorcut staples people keep, so I make everything totally from scratch. These are just as easy as the others. This is my recipe. If you don't have buttermilk, use 1 tsp vinegar to the cup then fill rest of way with milk. Let stand for 5 minutes. To the person who just reviewed my recipe. So sorry I meant 3 tsps. Please try again. I did fix it for any future people looking at this."

directions

  • Preheat oven to 400.
  • In a large bowl mix dry ingredients.
  • Do not add the garlic salt.
  • Add shortening and cut until crumbly in texture.
  • Add the milk. It should be sticky.
  • Mix in cheese. Try not to mix too much or it won't rise well.
  • Drop on cookie sheet and bake 8-10 mins or until brown on top.
  • Melt butter or margarine.
  • Brush on hot biscuits.
  • Sprinkle with the garlic salt. Do it this way so you make sure the garlic salt is on every biscuit. They are not as good without the flavor on every one.

  1. My husband said these were amazing and the most like Red Lobster biscuits that he has had! I used 5 TBS of butter in place of the shortening. I also used a cup of buttermilk and added 1/2 tsp of garlic powder to the dough. I mixed the cheese into the dry ingredients before adding the milk to ensure I did not have to over mix the dough later. These were so light and delicious! Thank you!

  2. I also don't stock bisquick so this was perfect! I subbed butter for the shortening and put garlic powder into the mix. Thanks to the other commenter, I mixed the cheese in with the dry ingredients so I wouldn't over mix. Turned out perfect!!

  3. These were good, but 1/4 cup of buttermilk wasn't even close to getting flour wet. I added 1/4 cup at a time and stopped at 3/4 cup after dough came together. Also, I recommend changing 3 tsp of baking powder to say 1 tablespoon, so no one gets confused. I'm also a big fan of garlic, so next time I'll try adding garlic to the dry ingredients.

  4. I am sorry ..... this was very dry and husband said he could taste the baking powder, even tho I cut it down to 2 and 1/2 Tablespoons. I will try again with more buttermilk.

  5. Have not tried the recipe but want to thank you for posting it without the Bisquick. Some of us don't live in places where it is available. If I ever stop dieting I'll try the recipe, and then review it. :-)
